Diesel Mechanic Technician (Portland/Bend)

We are seeking a Diesel Technician/Mechanic to keep up our level of commitment and safety for our award winning fleet in Portland, Oregon with occasional work at our Bend, Oregon fleet yard.  We will consider individuals who reside around Bend and are able to occasionally work out of our Portland fleet yard too.  We offer an annual tool allowance and on-going paid training/certification with an emphasis on Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) training.

HOURS: Full-time, Days. Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-7pm. Must be available to work every other weekend with corresponding week days off.

PAY: $72,800 – 83,200, annualized at an hourly rate, dependent upon advanced experience.  For applicants with significant Collision Repair and Refinishing experience, we may pay up to $104K/year, at an hourly compensation rate.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine, scheduled and preventative diesel engine maintenance inspections and required repairs to company standards
  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform vehicle repairs including steering, electrical, cooling, brake systems, drive trains, suspension, transmissions, etc.
  • Keep diesel repair process efficient
  • Keep automotive parts inventory up to date
  • Repair/maintain vehicle wheelchair lifts to ADA standards
  • Ensure vehicle work orders are accurate and properly completed
  • Collision repair and refinishing
  • Some diesel motorcoach driving is occasionally required to move fleet vehicles and for vehicle pick-ups

Job Requirements:

  • Prior vehicle/diesel mechanic experience required (minimum 2 years)
  • Able to obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications in Preventative Maintenance; Brakes; and Collision Repair and Refinishing.  Active certifications preferred.
  • Must own and supply appropriate automotive/diesel mechanic tools for necessary duties
  • Must possess a valid Oregon driver’s License. Willing to obtain CDL, Class B with Passenger endorsement within 6 months of starting
  • Must have dependable transportation
  • Must be willing to work early mornings or evening shifts, including weekends, on an as-needed basis
  • Must be able to pass a post-offer, pre-employment background check
  • Must be able to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug screen, including for MARIJUANA and Department of Transportation (DOT) physical

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in all aspects of bus, motorcoach or large commercial vehicle engine/diesel repair
  • Automotive electronic diagnostic and repair experience
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications in Transit Bus, Charter Bus, or Medium/Heavy Duty Truck a plus
  • ASE certification in Collision Repair and Refinish
  • Working knowledge of automotive Air Conditioning & Electrical Systems
  • Some experience driving commercial passenger vehicles preferred
  • Computerized record keeping skills
  • Fluent in English
